SEMH Sports Therapy and Mentoring

SEMH Sports Therapy and Mentoring for Primary school children

KickStart’s Sports Therapy and Mentoring programme is designed to improve pupil’s attention and listening skills, social competency, and cognitive functions.

Implementing our triangular approach to learning, we aim to provide a life-skills development approach which posits that the Psycho social, physical, and cognitive skills that young children utilise to succeed in sports can be translated across other settings such as school, home, or their community.

Costing: from £30 per session

About the Programme:

There are a variety of reasons as to why a child would benefit from our Sports Therapy and Mentoring programme such as:
  • Parents/carers often express a need for a positive role-model for their child, whilst our pupils report wanting to find someone to talk and play with them.
  • Sessions aim to develop qualities and skills such as confidence, leadership, and stress management.
  • A greater sense of belonging and community connectedness is developed through our Sports Therapy and Mentorship programme. This is particularly important for our pupils who experience high levels of mobility and frequent moves.
  • Essential life skills such as etiquette, sportsmanship, and perseverance are taught through sports activities, which can then be applied beyond the sports context.
  • Physical and mental health are closely aligned, we aim to improve self-management and growth skills. Pupils are supported in achieving greater levels of self-management, time management, and tolerance.

Our SEMH Sports therapy and mentoring programmes run termly and there are a number of different options available to suit the individual. Our innovative programme is based at Alexander First School, Kenneally, Oakley Green, Windsor, Berkshire, SL4 4XP

Kickstart company worked with the children at Alexander First School and made incredible commitments them and their wellbeing. As a company they are first and foremost looking out for the children that they work with; they became role models and support networks for vulnerable children. Kevin and Mike worked with classes as large as 28 and as small as 8 but every session was fun, engaging, curriculum linking and delivered to a high standard. Alongside class sessions Kevin and Mike would deliver 1:1 or small group Nurture sessions, here they would be working with children who expressed challenging behaviours or were vulnerable children within the community environment. They built up trust, rapport and compassion with these children delivering tailormade sessions for their needs. These children made huge steps of progress over the time working with Kickstart and it is down to their hard work and dedication that these children are now able to integrate more with their peers and navigate the school day with minimal hiccups. Kickstart are an incredible company with a true passion to help children for the better.
